  1. Familiar, and yet different...

As with OTL, the British/Allies decided that the Jews should have a homeland; the map was intended to show Israel/Palestine as it is now, and I was under the assumption it was correct. The only part you can't see (because I forgot to colour it) is the Gaza strip. Hopefully this Israel/Palestine...
  2. Alternate warship design

Awesome. How did you do these? Could you do any for hypothetical German or Austrian navies, etc.?
  3. Familiar, and yet different...

This map dates from 2005 - 2006. I thought I would add a bit more info: Hungary and Germany are restored monarchies (Hohenzollern and Habsburg). Italy never repudiated the monarchy (there's a reason for that - can you guess?), and Romania and Bulgaria are republics. Serbia is a neo - fascist...
  4. Familiar, and yet different...

Well, Germany still has to be punished for the war...they get a better post war settlement because the Russians didn't do quite as well. Some sort of conservative, anti - Hitler collaborationist government post war, under British, French, and American occupation. But there are other reasons for...
  5. Familiar, and yet different...

Unless I'm mistaken, the Allies told the Austrians during the war that their behavior would make the difference in how the Allies treated Austria after the war: as Hitler's first conquest or a willing part of the 3rd Reich. So, the Allies decide that the Austrians are just a wee bit too...
  6. Familiar, and yet different...

 I'm not quite sure why you'd think that. Besides, there are other little changes that don't have anything to do with Africa...
  7. Familiar, and yet different...

Hello all. You'll find the map similar to ours yet with a few 'improvements.' There's more than one change to the TL, but both fall after WWII and the Allies are victorious.
  8. Authoritarian Canada challenge

Can anyone come up with some ideas for a fascist/authoritarian government in Canada? It should be at least as popular as the current Liberal - party government (which has been in office for the last 13 years), we should have the same trade and budget surpluses as now, and a REAL military...
  9. Photos from Alternate Worlds

German troops march into Moscow as General Guderian prepares to accept the surrender of the Soviet Union in the name of Chancellor Hitler on July 23, 1943.
  10. More Portugese Asia

Portugal held the 'Dutch' East Indies for a while before the aforesaid Dutch took them over - during the time the Portugese and Spanish thrones were joined. So, why not formulate a pod wherein the Spanish/Portugese hold on to the East Indies and go from there? The Porguese also had Goa in India...
  11. A Swedish Question...

Turtledove in his novel 'In the Presence of Mine Enemies' says that Sweden becomes a fascist country and becomes part of the GGR. So, my question is, what are the chances that such a thing might have actually happened (a fascist government)? Maybe if said fascist government takes over, they...
  12. A Map Thread

Here's a 'fun' map I came up with a while back. Basically, the premise for my timeline is that Austria survived WWI, became a federated Imperial state. Germany still ends up NAZI and invades Poland, precipitating a 'shorter' WWII. Austria annexes Silesia after the war.
  13. Mexican Empire

How do you intend to stop the Americans from at least taking Texas? Unless I'm mistaken, the more northern territories were sparsely populated, which was part of Mexico's difficulty in holding them - the Yankees formed the majority. I could see Mexico doing better in a second war after losing...
  14. Turtledoves GW stuff

Perhaps the Germans will be able to carry out that military operation whose name must never be mentioned ;) The King of Bavaria would be a good choice, since he would be the heir in any Stuart Restoration. Of course, in this timeline, the King would have to let one of his sons assume the title...
  15. Alternate History/Map Challenge

True, in this timeline Germany doesn't seem to have much in the way of friends. I doubt Austria would view the NAZIs as anything more than hoodlums, and Hitler would have viewed them as diluting the purity of German blood, anyway. Certainly no love lost in that relationship. However, I would say...
  16. Alternate History/Map Challenge

Here are two ideas, you choose which you one you like better: 1.) Austria backs France and Britain - after Poland got on her feet in the 1920s, they provided a convenient market for Austrian goods, and the good relationship between Vienna and Warsaw led to a mutual defence treaty in 1928...
  17. Alternate History/Map Challenge

Asia is still pretty much as it was in OTL; on the other hand, Japan is trying to wrap up the war in China and turn her attention to the weak Russian far east. As for Austria, I had a few ideas about that: 1) if Hitler is der Fuher in this timeline, and I imagine he still would be, he would...
  18. Alternate History/Map Challenge

    Is no one interested? :(
  19. Alternate History/Map Challenge

Okay, so it is 1939 and the Germans are frisky. They have been able to repudiate most of Versailles and get rid of the reparations; they have been building up their forces for the last six years and the NAZIs are itching to get some lebensraum. So, where will they strike first? Their former...
  20. AH Challenge: Austria resists.

Perhaps if Britain and France do not condemn the Italian 'adventure' in Ethiopia, and don't distance themselves from Italy, etc. Mussolini might not support the Nazis. So, the next time Hitler threatens Austria, Mussolini does more than send troops to the Brenner Pass - with the invitation of...
