What are some Post-1900 real world historical events that would seem ASB and highly unrealistic in any other timeline?

The 2000 US Presidential Election is, if not ASB, the kind of thing that would produce howls of implausibility in any TL. Think about it: George W. Bush not only lost the popular vote, not only had the cartoonishly evil Dick Cheney as his henchman/VP, but to engineer the staggering *1*...

    Dirty Laundry: An Alternate 1980s

I love that people are still interested in Dirty Laundry. Me too! (I think about this timeline all the time.) Right now, I’ve been spending most of my spare time on the Opening Arguments podcast. But rest assured that... Dirty Laundry will never die. :)

    Dirty Laundry: An Alternate 1980s

Legend, at least, was covered in post #864. :)

WI: Gore Runs Again in 2004?

Kerry ran essentially the worst campaign a major party candidate could plausibly have run in 2004 and nevertheless came within 120,000 votes in Ohio of winning the Presidency. I can't think there's a Kerry '04 voter who wouldn't also be a *Gore '04 voter.

    Dirty Laundry: An Alternate 1980s

Remember that German megaconglomerate BASF now owns Commodore in the Dirty Laundryverse, so the C-64 (or the 64GS equivalent) might become the gaming platform of continental Europe. No, the games aren't as good, but it's hard to beat the price....

    Pop Culture Timelines Go-To Thread

The latest episode of Dirty Laundry returns to our narrative thread and follows the plucky, underfunded Congressional campaign of Donald H. Henley, having recently received a (semi-)endorsement from Rush Limbaugh, of all people. Will it be enough to put him over the top? Or will the "Satanic...

A New Deal for America: An Alternate History of the Late 1970s & Beyond

Arch Moore is, of course, a true criminal in any TL; his corruption was well known by 1988 (when, seeking a 3rd term, he got shellacked by Gaston Caperton) even though he wasn't convicted until 1990.

The Dirty Laundry FAQ: How to Get Started

I started Dirty Laundry: An Alternate 1980s over four years ago, and since then, the thread has stretched out to over 1,200 posts and hundreds of thousands of pageviews. But I know that a lot of new readers have joined the board since then, and diving into a monster TL can be a little...

WI: Howard Dean elected President 2004

Not sure why you'd think that, given that the major problem IOTL was Bush turning over FEMA to Michael "Heck of a job, Brownie" Brown out of pure political patronage. Put a competent administrator in there, and things go fine. Also, the city of New Orleans and the demographic groups most hurt...

    Dirty Laundry: An Alternate 1980s

September 13, 1986 Dave Orlovsky, the only Congressional staffer in history to wear knee-length bicycle shorts and neon-colored muscle shirts, is standing next to his boss, Congressman Don Henley, who’s busy sweating through his black suit in the early morning North Texas sun. It’s 7 a.m., and...

    Dirty Laundry: An Alternate 1980s

If so, it'll have to be via some expansion peripheral; PAMELA wouldn't be integrated until Atari started shipping its Kosumi console in 1989. You may recall that TTL's Atari Nintendo is mostly OTL's off-the-shelf NES with a few internal changes, such as the ASC65C02 CPU instead of OTL's Ricoh...

That happens in Dirty Laundry; instead, Run-DMC team up with legendary guitarist Tony MacAlpine and change the face of rap forever.

    That Wacky Redhead

I'm not the only one reading these last two posts with a misty eye. I swear, it's just that... I think I lost a contact, okay? Anyway, I don't think I (or anyone) can really do justice to how much joy this TL has brought into the world, and how much it'll be missed, but here goes: thank you...

The White House Run of '84

George H.W. Bush was pretty conservative in temperament, and picking the first female VP candidate (Ferraro, for whom Nancy Johnson is a pretty close analogue) in OTL's 1984 was seen as a hail-mary-shoot-the-moon desperation pick. 1984 is only two years after the defeat of the Equal Rights...
