WI: Longer "Roaring Twenties"

Basically, this is a challenge.

Have the Roaring Twenties last much longer, as long as realistically possible.

This may include:

1. Economic prosperity.

2. Social, artistic, and cultural dynamism.

3. New technologies and the belief that everything is feasible through them.

4. Women's rights being better than before. Maybe rights of various minorities as well.


In OTL, it is said that the Roaring Twenties ended with the Wall Street Crash, obviously it has to be prevented here. But how? How can we turn the Roaring Twenties into the Roaring Decades?

Hard to separate the Roaring part from the crash as the dynamism of the period was built upon very shakey economics and the very dynamism you want was an essential part of the reasons behind the crash.

Slow steady economic growth is doable, albeit unlikely considering the market ideologies of the time, or a limited recession mid twenties with a mild recovery. Its like asking the pre-2008 economy to continue as was - it couldn't as it fundamentally built on flawed foundations.

I think you can certainly have a longer period of social, artistic, and cultural dynamism, and probably economic dynamism as well. What you generally need is a President and Secretary of the Treasury who believe banking is a utility. The real economy is enough. What we don't need is a fictitious banking economy where we have derivatives on top of derivatives built ten levels high. So yes, we might need Congress to get behind laws mandating audited disclosure (CPAs would love this part) and increasing the amount of reserves required, and presidential leadership is not a bad place to start.

Wasn't the twenties in America the time when the automobile started to really become a middle-class aspiration, as well as the dawn of commercial radio?

Totally missing the point obviously, but how can the Roaring 20s last longer, surely you'd only get about six more months before they become the Roaring 30s?

Actually, closer to two months. The 1929 Wall Street Crash played between October 24 and October 29, 1929.
