Russia, defender of Europe?

Challenge, with a POD After January 1st, 1900, have Russia in some form, be considered the defender and guardian of Freedom in Europe. However, this status must be liked at least as much as Western Europe liked the USA in the Cold War. However, the only catch is that the USSR cannot be involved.

Germany on the brink of defeating France is smashed by Russia in the rear, who then goes on to occupy Berlin and Vienna and oversee the breakaway of the various nationalities in Habsburg territories into new states

Hmmm, that would make them the liberator and saviour, but not the defender...

Interesting idea... Who are they defending Europe FROM I suppose is the question...?

A Super Chipan-Indian Alliance would be the only reasonable thing. If they industrialise very quickly, Russia (democratised under a responsible government after defeating the Bolsheviks) might be the defender against them in the 1980s somewhere.

Almost ASB, but not quite.

Well I was wondering if you could get the USA to back the Central Powers (disputes over British interference with trade ?) so when Russia crushes Germany in their rear and frees Europe from the German menace there remains the US to defend the continent from

If Britain has been at war with the USA this could especially be so, since Canada and the Caribbean will likely have fallen, other colonies be threatened, British trade interests in S America annihilated etc thus weakening the ability of Britain to act as defender. Further, the Grand Fleet could have been sunk off the Great Banks !
