This is my first post-1900 TL, it's a map series so I'v got the first decade or so done:

The Great War
In 1912, Theodore Roosevelt ran as an Imperialist candidate and one the election, promising to turn the Caribbean into an "American Sea". A few years later, Pancho Villa stirs up a raucous and Teddy won't have any of it. Thus starts the Second Mexican-American war that concludes in 1920, resulting in the northern states of Mexico becoming American territories while the south is a puppet state.

This meant that there was no American involvement in The Great War. As a result, Germany steamrolls France after Russia pulls out. This in turn ruins Frances economy and starts a civil war in 1921.

American imperialism inspired Colombia to have an empire of their own. This was then made possible by funding from the U.S. to be a strict anti-communist regime. They took advantage of Venezuelas poor economy and took the country relatively easily.

The Ottoman Empire collapsed right after the war due to the many Arab uprisings. In 1918 there were uprisings in Egypt, Palestine, Syria, Iraq and Hijaz. The revolt in Egypt heavily emphasized pan-Arabism and was able to convince Syria and Iraq to join as the Kingdom of Arabia. The Hashemite Kingdom became another independent state, as did Yeman, Oman and Najdi Bedouin tribes.

Germany is in a powerful but precarious position. Although their resources and manpower are vast, the threat of radical Marxist movements looms over the oppressed nations of Eastern Europe. Austria will surely not survive, and Germany is wondering when the right time to bring Vienna into the empire would be.

1921

1925
The French civil war is over. The communist have pushed the Republicans out of the country. Most fled to Algeria, where they set up an Exile Apartheid state. In Italy, a communist coup decides the countries future. Communist activity is beginning to start in Belarus, Ukraine and Poland. It was all put down brutally.

Communist thought begins to influence Mexico where guerrillas take up arms against the puppet government. Colombia gains Ecuador by treaty, bedazzled by promises of a Grand Colombian Empire.

Persia becomes a British puppet state.

1928
Mass revolts happen in Belarus, Ukraine, Romania and Poland. Germany does the best it can mopping up. In Ukraine, Anarchist elements have mobilized to establish a free state.

Communist guerrillas still operate in the Mexican Territories despite crackdown.

In China communist propaganda from just across the border plays of off anti-Imperialist sentiments and begin to plant the seed of revolution.

The Kingdom of Arabia vassalizes the Hashemites. Persia and Afghanistan become British protectorates.

1932

A year after the revolutions, Ukraine and Belarus successfully establish Soviet S.S.R.s. The Romanians are now clamoring for revolution, but the Poles dare not make such a racket again. In SPain, Catalonian and Basque communists fight for independence while scores of Anarchists flock to establish states in the mountains. Germany Established the Republics of Baltica and loads them up with anti-communist ideology.

The Manchu S.S.R. is established and Japan declared war claiming it to be a violation of Chinese sovereignty. Russia funds the Manchus while Japan gets ready to become truly imperial.

Oh, I wouldn't count Germany out quite yet.

1933

In Spain, the Basque and Catalonians establish their own Western Commune, but the revolution doesn't stop there. Austria Hungary sells Madagascar to Portugal and Indo-China to U.K.

In China, Japan defeats the Manchu S.R.R. and oversees the construction of the Manchu Republic, a puppet state. In central Asia, Communist allied tribes are causing violence. The British response was heavy, but guerrilla warfare in the mountains is taxing.

Taking advantage of the great depression that hit the U.S., the rump state of Mexico has gone full communist, and guerrillas appear all over the Northern Territories, even as far as Arizona. Cuba and Hispaniola revolt as well, only to be put down quickly. In Venezuela, communist supporters rise up against the super-Imperialist Columbia.

1934

The republican Spanish flee to Morocco, but they do not establish an apartheid state like their French neighbors. Still, relations are strained between the natives and the Europeans.

In China, peasants begin to demand a communist nation and are starting to stockpile their food, refusing to pay taxes. The Chinese democratic government, who is really incompetent, doesn't know how to handle the situation, so right now it's basically just Japan protecting vital areas from the reds. Near Shanghai, a militant spiritual movement that emphasizes Confucianism ideals turns the city into chaos. Thailand becomes a British protectorate.

America invades Mexico for a third time. The Venezuelan problem is just getting worse.

The Second Great War

As Bulgaria was a strongly imperial, relatively right-wing and ally of Germany, there was little chance of a communist revolution forming naturally. A vanguard of Ukrainians disguised as Bulgarian soldiers go to Sofia during a labor protest where they gunned down dozens in an attempt to stir up dissent. Called the Sofia Massacre, Germany instantly declared war on Ukraine S.S.R. The Soviet Union and Western Communes claim that there was no proof it was Ukrainian soldiers, and declares war on Germany. The U.K., the United States, Germany, Japan and Colombia declare war on the Soviets and the Western Communes.

The war speech of the U.S. President (R) ends with the quote "Only lesser races fall to communism."

Things are about to get nasty.

1935

Stretching from The Netherlands to Trieste, The Rhine Defense Perimeter is the most heavily fortified border in the world. Dozens of infantry and artillery divisions man the network of guns and towers. In the east, the Belorussians and Ukrainians were quick to begin their assault. Once met by German armored divisions, it became known as the Prussian and Galician fronts respectively. In Spain, the commune mobilized against Portugal. The British came to the aid of their ally Portugal, using the Asturian Anarchist state as an entry point. They have also blockaded the Straight of Gibraltar and the Suez Canal, the latter of which severely souring relations with the Kingdom of Arabia. French and Spanish commune soldiers have made it a priority to exterminate the republican exile states and have landed in Tunis and Algiers. The Italians have dedicated themselves to moving their Grecian brothers to higher society. The Bulgarians dig in, preparing for the worst.

In Turkey, the Trabzond Front is going poorly as Soviet forces smash through the Caucasus Mountains. In central Asia, the Turkoman Offensive was nothing the Persian forces couldn't handle. Extensive, monotonous and dangerous, the securing of Central Asia is not a pretty theater for either side. In China, most peasants have joined up with communist armies, although there is still a sizable amount of Nationalist forces, some of which are in formations with Japanese or British units, some not as lucky. The "New Spirit Rebellion" as it is being called have taken control of Shanghai. Both the communists and the nationalists are belligerent towards them.

In South Africa, lack of American funding has led to widespread revolts across Venezuela and Ecuador. The United States have started committing genocide on the Mexicans, who flee southwards in the hundreds of thousands.
