I'm planning on writing a timeline whose PoD is in Eastern Europe in the 800/900s, but my knowledge of the period is rather lacking. I've been looking into a few books which cover the periods of Russian history I am looking at in particular the early history of Russia into the Imperial era and the colonization of Siberia.
Some that I have highlighted include Russia: A 1000-Year Chronicle of the Wild East by Martin Sixsmith and A History of Russia by Nicholas Riasanovsky. Any thoughts on those two or do you have any other suggestions?
I've also looked at some material on early Polish history (another area of study for the timeline). The Polish Way: A Thousand-Year History of the Poles and Their Culture by Adam Zamoyski seems like a good choice, although once more I am open to suggestions.
I'm hoping a forum of expertise can offer more than one man's blind Google searching can.
