Inspired by Son Tay- US invasion of PRVN to liberate POWS, 1972

Just read in a new mil hist mag article on the 7 most successful raids in mil hist- which included the Son Tay raid in 1970- which noted that there was actually a plan proposed to the JCS, inspired by the success of Op KINGPIN, for a full-scale US invasion of PRVN in 1972- involving 1 Marine & 2 Army divs- with the aim of securing all prison camps & liberating all American POWs within the vicinity of Hanoi. Now, WI this plan (although sounding admittedly somewhat ASBish) had actually been implemented ?

Wouldn't have worked. You can't launch that big a force to rescue a few hundered scattered individuals. That kind of thing ends with alot of dead POWs. That and another round of campus uprisings at home.
