The POD that could do this with the least butterflies is the 1876 timeframe. Specifically if the Compromise of 1877 falls through, you might see some of the nastier and more violent preparations/actions of that period become a new variant of the Civil War, factoring in the Great Railway Strike for an enormous clusterfuck. Assuming, however, that Civil War means another situation ala 1861-5 with massed armies of conscripts from US sections thrown at each other.....that is not entirely plausible.
The Third Great Awakening has a much stronger impact in the post-civil-war period, causing clergyman Josiah Strong to be convinced his ideas are divine inspiration and for them to find even more fertile ground than in OTL.
Instead of just a popular movement taking various forms in various Protestant denominations as per OTL, Strong forms a new church based on extreme versions of his real life beliefs: A "Muscular Christianity" that will spread throughout the Western frontier and the rest of the world and Christianize it, fulfilling the destiny of the "Anglo-Saxon Race", and fighting the evils of "Catholicism, Mormonism, Socialism, Intemperance, Wealth, Urbanization, and Immigration."
