AHC: Roman obsession in Japan

Have the Japanese nobility or middle class, with a POD after 1500, fall in love with the history and culture of the Roman Empire.

Bonus points if they admire the pagan Roman Empire rather than the Christian Roman Empire (which would be rather easy, if they are converted to Catholicism by the Portuguese).

It won't be a full on conversion, but no Tokugawa shoguns, or at least no anti christian crackdowns and stopping of embassies could help.

You don't really need to have a PoD that far back, a 19th century one would do really, hell you could do it in the 20th century as the Japanese, like several other groups do have a tendency to get obsessed with relatively random stuff.
