  1. Three Men, One Island - A Cuban Missile Crisis timeline

I noticed and I am nervously waiting to see whether Finland will be bombed to pieces in a way that will make sense at least little or if it will be senseless wholesale slaughter like DrakonFin's P&S spin-off Land of the Sad Songs.
  2. Three Men, One Island - A Cuban Missile Crisis timeline

It makes absolutely no sense for the Soviet Union to bomb Finland because for the northwestern Soviet Union, Finland was theoretically their first line of defence. While Finland was officially neutral during the Cold War, the Soviet leadership didn't see it that way and officially Finland was...
  3. Into the Fire - the "Minor" nations of WW2 strike back

It's both half numbing and half understandable to look at the Soviet actions concerning Finland. Numbing because the Soviets appear to be dead set in pushing Finland to the German sphere of influence through idiotic foreign policy, just like they were in OTL. Understandable because if the...
  4. Chile-Argentina war... in 2003!

How can Argentina not compete with Chile? Larger population, far better geography and signifcant amounts of untapped natural resources. I could possibly see the rearmament effort mentioned by juanml82 if it were limited to conventional weapons. But going ahead with nuclear weapons program will...
  5. Chile-Argentina war... in 2003!

Let me clarify. By "significant other", I meant another nuclear power which already had nuclear weapons. Chile doesn't have any. India did have weapons and had them for over 20 years before Pakistan tested their first weapon. Also, while I'm aware of the Condor program of missile construction...
  6. Chile-Argentina war... in 2003!

All of this still hinges on series of bold assumptions: - Argentina is able to build a nuclear weapon in secrecy in six years. In 2005 IISS estimated that Iran could get the bomb before 2010 if it threw caution in the wind. - Argentina is able to build not just ballistic missiles, but MRBM's...
  7. Chile-Argentina war... in 2003!

Argentina is not Pakistan. The latter has value for China not just in economic terms, but also for geopolitics. They've also been allies to China since the 1970s.
  8. Chile-Argentina war... in 2003!

This is early-to-mid 2000s that we're talking about. For China, an era of fantastic, yet pragmatic state capitalist growth and ever-deeper relations with the West. The Belt and Road Initiative that has now resulted in multi-billion dollar investment deals in Argentina didn't start until 2013...
  9. Chile-Argentina war... in 2003!

Why on earth would China want to provide a line of credit to a wannabe nuclear power?
  10. Munich Shuffle: 1938-1942

Understandable. By the way, is Berlin the capital of Federal Republic of Germany or is it somewhere else? I'm curious because in OTL the United Kingdom, United States and France never recognized East Berlin as the capital of East Germany and refused to recognize East German authority to govern...
  11. Munich Shuffle: 1938-1942

But isn't Frankfurt not only in the Soviet sector, but also the capital of the GSR? Or has this been changed?
  12. Munich Shuffle: 1938-1942

Yes. This one from page 138.
  13. Munich Shuffle: 1938-1942

Nice. This timeline just keeps on giving.
  14. Munich Shuffle: 1938-1942

Will there be postscripts for other countries which had a drastically different fates than OTL (divided China, divided Italy, former Czechoslovakia, united Korea or even with Finland, with its mostly prewar borders with the Soviet Union)?
  15. Munich Shuffle: 1938-1942

Excellent timeline from start to finish!
  16. Bicentennial Man: Ford '76 and Beyond

And nothing of value was lost. Fun fact, IOTL after elements of the Sinisalo faction were expelled from the original Communist Party of Finland, they reformed, adopted the name Communist Party of Finland (Unity). A name so strikingly ironic given how their new party came about because of nearly...
  17. Bicentennial Man: Ford '76 and Beyond

What? God no. Just because there would be protests, even severe, it doesn't mean that the bedrock of the Finno-Soviet relationship, the 1948 Treaty of Friendship, Co-operation and Mutual Assistance, would be compromised. The treaty would still be in force until 1990 if not renewed (OTL it was...
  18. Bicentennial Man: Ford '76 and Beyond

Great update much like the previous one I didn't know how to comment best. Of course, I have to provide my little "analysis" and predictions from Finnish POV. With the end of the war, a number of things will happen for Finland. First and most urgent, diplomacy. If the official peace treaty...
  19. Bicentennial Man: Ford '76 and Beyond

A quality meme, if a bit out-of-place for 80s Väyrynen. I personally prefer whatever satirist Kari Suomalainen had drawn of Väyrynen: "To every cape, valley, island I would like to raise a house" sings Väyrynen holding a bag reading "per diem" in this 1982 satirical cartoon. That year it was...
  20. Bicentennial Man: Ford '76 and Beyond

I'm glad you like it. When it comes to Väyrynen, I think I should clarify that while he is ambitious and bit of an opportunist with a pro-Moscow bent, he isn't a complete idiot. Even with his meme-like status in Finnish politics, he will likely play it safe.
