Explain the AH Quote

“After the shock of the Minsk anthrax attack subsided, the United States and its NATO allies decided - enough was enough. In August they formed the ‘Coalition of the Willing‘ with Siberia, and on September 4th they declared that the National Salvation Government in Russia was a menace to humanity and announced the beginning of Operation Arctic Sword, a campaign with one major goal - to depose the NSG government and bring democracy to Russia.”

An excerpt from a book about the Second Russian Civil War. After the fall of the Soviet Union over in 1991, Russia entered a period of instabilty and turmoil, only for a coalition of hard right-wing individuals and various oppotunistic individuals from the former Communist Party to go and take over as the "National Salvation Government". A group of powerful politicians who championed order and with a prominent religious bent, they promised to rule as an interim government, they would end up lasting for over 20 years in power and throughout that time, had become a prominent pariah state in all but name as a result. While initially rather moderate and cooperative, they would quickly become more authoritarian over time. Or more accurately, expose more and more of their authoitarian measures. However, most of this went unnoticed due to the 9/11 attacks focusing the world's attention over in the Middle East for the next decade or so.

Despite this, a growing number of people began collecting evidence of the growing atrocities and human rights violations of the National Salvation Government. This was done thanks to the Internet and information being smuggled into Mongolia and Ukraine for it. The outside world began becoming aware of the problems by 2007 though the Great Recession would also distract people from it, which emboldened the NSG into thinking they were being divinely assisted. This led to greater authoritarian measures and further issuesd with their neighbors. However, the major shock came in the Minsk anthrax attack. With the Lukashenko government in Belarus close to being toppled, the NSG attempted to do a false flag operation with an antrax attack to give Lukashenko more power and stability, but it quickly backfired as it was evident on where the sources came from, especially with the defection of some agents. Horrified by this, the Obama administration would go and work with NATO to deal with Russia, especially with the rumors similar plans were considered for Ukraine and Finland. Ultimately, Finland wold be fasttracked to join NATO with creating the 'Coalition of the Willing' for this operation. The situation had escalated so badly that Iran and China were among the first to join the Coalition. They would also be joined by the resistance army that had been growing over in Siberia as a result. So much that Siberia would secede over from Russia weeks prior to the Second Russian Civil War.

The war lasted for months as the NSG Russians drowned from intense tensions and inner conflicts. Any fears of nuclear retaliation were disabled in part thanks to many Russian nuclear scientists and engineers (many of whom would be killed as a result), and ultimately, the NSG would be ousted, with many of the leaders captured and tried in the Hague over in early 2012. However, the situation was not over. It would take many months to try to stabilize the situation and it would escalate with the release of the NSG Papers. A massive leak of classified documents of many foreign politicians and prominent figures who were connected to the NSG financially. This included many politicans within the western world and beyond, with shocking names from the US and even Israel. This led to massive scandals, lawsuits and political turmoil. Israel experienced heavily as it experienced a "Velvet Revolution" and led to whole new parties and groups taking power along with a massive loss of prestige and American funding. The Americans would see a seismic shift in their electoral systems with the GOP collapsing due to many of its politicans, patrons and thid party think tanks connected to the NSG and being replaced by the American Solidarity Party after several years while the ordeal led to many Democrats taking early retirement due to shock and stress led to the party dissolving, with the Justice Party taking its place for the mainstream American left while remaining members from both joined the Unity Party.

The aftermath would leave quite an impact on world affairs as Russia would struggle to recover due to the brain drain and quality of life drop. While the new government has been doing quite well in terms of transparency and the like, it is still recovering from the wounds. Meanwhile, while Siberia has remained independent for now, many of the ethnic Russians in the region have been leaving, either to fill in the void over in Russia itself or for new opportunity. Some have even noted the possibilty of Siberia either merging back with Russia or potentially even Mongolia (as the two governments have worked closely during the Civil War with China's aid.) China got a large and prominent boost for aiding in the coalition though apparently, the party suffered a purge with the revelaton of some NSG connections, which led to other crimes being outed. The Kim dynasty of China was also ousted and replaced by a Workers' Council with the revelation of how long North Korea knew, which infuriated China enough. Currently, North Korea is undergoing vast de-Kimification and many North Koreans have started to leave their nation, going into Siberia, or other parts of the world. The Middle East was also affected by proxy due to the various political decisons and the like. Despite all of this, there is plenty of hope in the post-NSG era, especially as the whole ordeal served to force alot of much needed reforms, introspection and political purges in the world.

"When the British and French send aid to the Confederacy during the American Civil War, Russia acted on its promise to declare war on both of them. Additionally, both Prussia and Austria would exploit this to declare war on France as well. Needless to say, the American-German-Russia impromptu alliance would prove to be victorious."

An excerpt from the documentary The Great War, released in 1998. The Great War initially began in 1861 as a slaveholder rebellion in the US south against the federal government, but but Britain and France joined after the US attacked ships housing British diplomats who were secretly meeting with the Confederacy. Subsequently, the North German Confederation stepped in, eying an opportuinity to humble their main European rival and unite Germany, and Russia also joined (as per a secret treaty with Washington DC), wanting revenge for the Crimean War. A series of political machinations would also see Austria, the Ottomans, the Qing and the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom get dragged in.

By the time the war ended in 1868, much has changed. The US had successfully reunited itself, and also seized Britain’s Canadian territories, Germany had been united, the old Austrian and Ottoman empires dismantled, and China split between the Qing in the north and the Taiping in the south.

“The Federal Republic of China’s democracy is one of the most competitive in the world. The People’s Parliament in Beijing has a whopping 7,000 members, the most of any legislative body, and there are around 150 political parties active. Of course, many of these parties organise into coalitions like in other democracies, but the nature of Chinese politics allows the coalitions to conglomerate into massive “supercoalitions”. Currently there are three such supercoalitions active: the People’s Union, representing the left wing, the Alliance of Stability representing the political centre, and the Black Dragons representing the right wing.”

A description of the Federal Republic of China from a pre-University level textbook.

After the Second Great War ended, China was divided into two states. The Allied-backed nation of Republic of China, and the Fascist-supported Nationalist China in 1952. The two states, ruled by the Fujian People's Government and the Kuomintang respectively, were often at a state of tension. However, the two nations reunified in 1992 after Italy transition into democracy and the Greater German Reich dissolved. As a result, free elections were allowed to be hosted without any interference whatsoever, leading to the formation of three supercoalitions in the Parliament.

However, the practice of forming supercoalitions in the Parliament proved to be extremely cotentious. Critics accuse of supercoalitions of consolidating power into a few and feeding into authoritarian rule. Yet, supporters claim that this practice prevents the typical 'warlord'-style government that permeated China during the Interwar Period.

-- An Unabridged History of Anime Games (2023) by Cynthia Wu and Hannah Everheart

An excerpt from An Unabridged History of Anime Games, focusing on the development cycles of anime games, referring to video games that focused heavily on an anime-styled aesthetic as a focal point, such as visual novels and other games that focused on the aesthetic. The particular example here referred to the early 2000s era between conflict between some of the Japanese staff and their American coworkers, due to differing visions and many other problems. One noted example was Nekoyangi Mambo, known for making lewd jokes (though not enough to get anyone actually to report him) and collection of various adult animation material. Nekoyanagi was incensed regarding over the total script rewrite, which caused his departure over from the company. However, this also led to some growing conflicts regarding Megatech Software's growing departure from their start in dubbing 'eroge' games and focusing more on original works by the company.

Many attributed this to the new management of the company, most of whom were more standard professionals rather than the enthusiasts who helped found the company. While this did lead to growing profits for the company and increased reputation, it would also led to a schism regarding the direction of Megatech Software. It was also reflecting a growing clash of attitudes regarding adapting certain Japanese works for a foreign audience Ultimately, the issue would be solved when the company would be split into two; Megatech Software would change its name to Gigatech Enterprises while a new company formed from some of the departed staff and so on would manage to get the 'Megatech Software' name.

Gigatech Enterprises would maintain some level of success over the years with a focus of using anime-centric imagery and a focus on storytelling. It also garnered some interest for being one of the few bigger game companies to be considered a 'girl's club' compared to the male-dominated field of video game design. Despite this, Gigatech Enterprises would end up collapsing over in 2010 for numerous reasons. While the Great Recession was initially blamed, it would later be revealed that there was a fair level of financial corruption and conflicts between the creative side and business side of the company. This would also be around the time the term 'girlboss' would be coined as a result. While the term initially meant a female boss whose "success is defined in opposition to the masculine business world in which she swims upstream", it gained a more well-known pejorative meaning, referring to a female boss who practices similar abusive and materialistic behavior. Indeed, some former Gigatech employees when interviewed noted that while some things did improve, the whole thing often felt like a lateral shift and that some argued alot more since. Ultimately, the company would be liquidated and its assets sold off over to a holding company. Many suspected that the second Megatech Software would bid for the assets, but they refused, citing both the financial costs and the bad blood. Eventually, the assets would be puchased by Square Enix.

Meanwhile, the second Megatech Software would carry on with the legacy of the first. Much of the older talent would return to the successor company while the connections of the old guard allowed them to stay afloat regarding translation work and the like. They would even get some work translating some games to Japanese markets. However, given the rather... 'underground' scene of eroge and adult games in the West, they had to come up with ways to adapt to maintain financial stability. Ironically enough, one way was to cater over to the LGBTQ community, both in eroge games and non-erotic games. This would land them an undertapped audience to remain afloat. They would also attract various new talent from unexpected source, with one internet historian noting that a prominent portion of the new blood came from Newgrounds. They would also see be among the first to embrace online game distribution such as Steam, as a means to get around the issues that the "adults only" rating often plagued games. Megatech Software has since remained somewhat under the radar, though it garnered some attention when the company would transition into being a worker-owned co-op as a means to try and avoid the company from going under.

As for An Unabridged History of Anime Games, the book was considered moderately successful financially and viewed as an intriguing view into an oft-forgotten genre of the medium. At the same time, it garnered some accusations for bias. One interesting response about the book was Nekoyanagi himself; when contacted about the incident, he noted that the reason he was incensed because his script was heavily edited without being informed or discussed about it prior to, which was the last straw before departing.

Taken from History of the Middle East, by Abraham Long (professor of eastern history at Benedict Arnold University of Boston). Starting in the mid 2000s, the Republic of Palestine would adopt a series of new economic and military reforms heavily inspired by the US, thanks to its new president (who was half American). This slowly led the country to become a major power in the area, even overshadowing nations like Persia and Greater Arabia.

Dialogue between Dr. Doom and Elsa Bloodstone in Fantasic Four: Aggression of Annihilus (2029). This was the third Fantastic Four film set in a second MCU after the first one was officially ended in 2025 due to Disney's continuing financial losses. Tom Holland would return as Spiderman in the second NMCU film after Fantastic Four (2026) saw great success with both fans and general audiences.

(In this timeline, Benito Mussolini became a priest and has a similar legacy in Italy to that of Fulton Sheen in America.)
An excerpt from the Rome Speech, 1922, by Benito Mussolini.

Before World War 1, Benito Mussolini was frocked as Cardinal in 1914. However, due to World War 1 breaking out, he was conscripted into the Royal Italian Army to fight the Austro-Hungarian forces in the Alpine Campaign. The constant cold, fatigue, and seeing death and destruction in the battlefront heavily changed his worldview for the first time. After the Entente surrendered in 1919, the Germans annexed Austria and the Adriatic territories from the collapsed Austro-Hungarian Empire and Italy as reparations, causing despair and shame for the country.

The new, nascent medium of radio and film was introduced to Italy by the occupying Imperial German forces when Benito Mussolini resumed his duties as Cardinal of Romagna. Seeking to spread a message of hope after defeat, he started speaking for the Italians in radio broadcasts and recorded films. Soon, he slowly gained an audience of Italians supporting and cheering for him. He was later promoted to Bishop of Romagna in 1929 by the Catholic Church, and was praised by the Pope for his honesty and efforts to rebuild confidence within the Italian people.

Sadly, he was also a target of various fascist movements in Western Europe. He was referred to as a 'Catholic demagogue' by the German Workers' Party; the Fatherland Front deemed his views 'too moderate' and 'too modern'; the Italian Fascists hated him for being a Catholic against their secular, atheistic views; and Charles Maurras considered him a 'Marxist and Masonic stooge' in his writings. This lead to multiple assassination attempts by members of the movements whenever he toured outside of Romagna and the Vatican City.

In the January of 1931, Benito Mussolini was assassinated during a tour in Ravenna. The assassin, Walter Audisio, was ordered by the Stalinists, who were gaining power in Russia, to kill him and ignite chaos in Italy. He was provided with a Mosin-Nagant sniper rifle and a Nagant M1895 revolve with its respective ammunition. Walter Audisio was executed under Italian law while Benito Mussolini's funeral was attended by thousands of Italians and observed by dignitaries and officials.

"Voice acting in anime games was not limited to English-language anime dub voice actors and local talent. Voice actors who had voiced characters in American cartoons also played roles in those games. As per standard custom in the anime game industry, these voice actors assumed stage names to avoid negative association and union fines. A notable example is Tom Kenny (SpongeBob SquarePants), who voiced the main protagonist Might in the sword-and-sorcery yaoi game Silver Chaos while being credited as James Tomson."

The English state went from persecuting Catholics for 'heresy' to persecuting them for 'thoughtcrime' against the government, a cult masquerading as a government."
English expat Professor James Ingersoll, speaking at the 1977 Center for Strategic Objectivism. In 1929, following the Mundial War, which saw the Coalition (Britain, Saxony, Belgium, and Danubia) defeated and Britain stripped off its overseas empire, a violent Socialist revolution broke out, led by former Radical Labour MP Richard Cornwright. Under Cornwright the so-called "Engsocs" demanded that the "aristocratic, corpulent, indolent, parasitic" British leadership pay for "leading the English people into a conflagration not for the democratic and social rights of the populace, but for the greedy and atavistic hunger for conquests and wealth of the ruling classes." Attempts to turn the Army on the domestic revolts backfired sharply when the 1st Royal Dragoons refused to disperse a mob in Piccadilly, instead joining with the rioters and laying siege to Westminster, Buckingham Palace, and 10 Downing Street. The Engsoc Revolution swept across the nation, though attempts to incorporate the Welsh and Scottish "Social Republics" under a larger "Union of Sovereign Social Republics" was remarkably, and embarrassingly, unsuccessful.

The English Socialist Party under Cornwright, aided by his "Inner Party" including Minister of Peace and Defense Tommy Townshend, Minister for Economic Progress Bruce Landringham, Minister for Protection and Prosperity Jeremy Marblehead, and Minister for Mental Hygiene and Education Ryan Johnson, set about a rapid transformation of English society and politics that would have shocked even Saint-Just and Robespierre. Large landed estates were seized and converted into "Communal Plantations," knighthoods and titles were abolished, the word "Royal" was removed from every facet of government and culture, and most horrendously of all, the British Royal Family was executed, with the exception of young Elizabeth, who accepted asylum in the United States. English expats, historians, and Objectivist commentators have all been quick to note that a Communal Plantation led by a Social Administrator and tended to by "Social Yeoman" bore a strong resemblance to a landed estate with its tenants and renters, that the "Order of Social Devotion" the "Society of Social Strength" and the "Grand Order of the Social Protector" were awarded in great numbers to "deserving individuals" and that leaders of the English Social Republic who were members of the English Socialist Party and had been awarded the "Grand Order of the Social Protector" or served in the 1st Social Dragoons seemed somewhat hypocritical when they impugned the previous United Kingdom for using the word "Royal" in everything.

Today, the English Social Republic is considered a dangerous rogue state, known for its saber rattling, constant martial threats, the destitution and delusion of its people. The English expat community within the United States has long advocated that the United States and the League of Free Nations do something to restore their homeland. While the United States has taken no direct action, it strongly supports the Irish Free State, the Kingdom of Scotland, and the Kingdom of Cymru and an American aeromarine is almost always homeported out of Scapa Flow, Belfast, or Caerdydd.

- Is this really the greatest city of Europe of which you talked to me? the city by which kings had fought for generations to reclaim? because all I see is a city in decadence, one of every three houses have collapsed, the inhabitants dress like beggars , the temples are in decay, how can a place like this be called the queen of cities!? why someone would figth by a place like this!?
- You are not wrong my khan this city is as you describe it, but you don't understand that people don't fight for what this city is but for what it was, this was the city that once ruled the world, this is the city that once was never defeated, this is the city that was ruled so great ones who at their death were called gods, that is why a hundred kings have fought not for the city but for what it represents, to put their name on the same level as that of men who are still worshiped by thousands today, to be called his heirs, to be called emperors of Rome

Specifically, the end of Act III. For those not entirely familiar with the original play by the (otherwise unknown) Austrian playwright Lorenz Blaes-Bylandt (1899-1944)*, this dialogue was unfortunately left out of the operatic adaptation written by Giacomo Andretti, Due Grandi Imperatori. The play is about Kubla Khan determining to make war against a neighboring kingdom, only to have his ultimatum replied to with a proposal to join forces and defeat the legendary "Kingdom of Kingdoms", which lies on the other side of the Carpathian Mountains. Blending the familiar tales of "A Thousand and One Arabian Nights", and "The Emperor's New Clothes", Kubla Khan did not want to admit that he had never heard of this city, and agreed to the attack. The other king allowed Khan's army into his borders, and-while continually adding his own armies to the joint expedition-told the Khan ever more intriguing stories of the riches to be had. Finally, upon reaching the hills over an old, decayed city on the far side of the kingdom, Kubla Khan and his host exchange the above. Khan then orders his army to take the city and its spoil for themselves and to cut the other kingdom out of the deal. The other king then used his army to seal the pass leading back out of the valley, and held back the Khan's force until Rome (whose garrison city it really was) attacked and wiped out Khan's army. At the end of the play it is revealed that the other king had made a deal with the Roman Senate to deliver Kubla Khan into their hands, in exchange for the independence of his own kingdom from Rome.

*LB-B had written a few choral and solo works but The Khans of the West is his only full play. His agent, in arranging his works for posthumous publication, included it in the first edition but removed it from subsequent ones at the insistence of Frau Bleas-Bylandt who said that it was less of a composition and more of a therapeutic exercise to help her husband regain his abilities while recovering from shell shock. Sadly, before he was able to fully recover, he was returned to the front in one on the "Malingerer's Units" (Simulanteneinheiten) sent on what turned out to be suicide missions to try and dislodge the Allied forces that had set up impregnable "near beachheads" on the Frisian Islands and Heligoland.

Marshal Doriot, The true power in the French Empire, spoke these words in 1940 to his figurehead, Emperor Napoleon VI when the latter advised against attacking the English-protected Netherlands. The full quote is: "Your Majesty, I'm sorry, but I must reject your sage advise, but France is not the weak, soiled, destitute nation it was 20 years ago. We field an army to rival the Huns, and we have enough planes to level 15 cities. France is no weak land. It is a great war machine, and once this great war machine activates, we will reclaim our glory, and europe will see a flood of blood and death never seen as we take revenge on Perfidious Albion!"
This is often seen as ironic, as the Third Great War was an utter failure for the French, with the British Republic, United Republics of America and The German Syndicate Union winning within 5 years.

And saying you prefer either one would get you hounded by a horde of permanently online fanboys who are stuck in their 'precious little headcanons', so I think I'm gonna play a drinking game anytime one of those moronic twats send me a death threat or two. Anyways, let's get into reviewing this underrated gem."
An excerpt from the VideoEmpire (this TL's equivalent of YouTube) user GamingAddict07's review of the visual novel "Adventures in Slumberland" for PC and Mac. The two versions of the game have notable deviations in their plot due to the creative differences between the writers of both versions - and this has generated tension both inside and outside the fandom.

"The sudden Slavery Crisis in the United States and the abolition of slavery in 1839 would scupper the plans of Texas to join the Union. And as the years dragged by and Texas refused to abolish slavery, the country began to be seen as an embarrassment to humanity by the international community. Finally, by 1881 the United States and Mexico decided enough was enough - if Texas wouldn't abolish slavery on their own, Washington and Mexico City would have to make it happen."

Finally, by 1881 the United States and Mexico decided enough was enough - if Texas wouldn't abolish slavery on their own, Washington and Mexico City would have to make it happen."

After independence, Texas found itself in a complicated situation, independent from Mexico with the objective among many others of preserving slavery, it saw its dreams of joining the United States dashed, after the "Cotton Plague" destroyed most of cotton plants and caused a serious economic crisis that almost plunged the state into bankruptcy. With this plague, and the ruin of most of the southern planter elites, owning and keeping slaves became prohibitive, and abolitionist associations achieved its prohibition.
Texas, although it was also affected by this plague, refused to renounce what they understood to be a fundamental right, and refused to join the anti-slavery United States, beginning a difficult journey alone.
By 1880, only Texas continued slavery, after the Empire of Brazil abolished it in 1862 and Spain in all its island territories in 1869.
Given the Texan refusal, in 1881 the so-called "War of Liberation" (for the Americans), or "The Glorious Vengeance" (for the Mexicans) took place, by which the Republic of Texas was defeated, and forced to abolish the institution, while the nation was forced to pay a heavy monetary compensation to Mexico for its rebellion and independence, which could not be paid, motivating Mexico to occupy and annex the territory as compensation.
This fact would generate tension between the two former allies, and would be one of the causes of the "Great North American War", but that is another story.

Texas made a series of commitments to us. Their refusal to satisfy them has forced us to obtain compensation by other means.
Legally, Texas was and is Mexican territory, Mr. Ambassador. If your nation wishes to challenge it, we will meet on the field of honor to resolve it, and believe me, we will not hesitate like 50 years ago when half a nation was given to you in exchange for forgiving debts and maintaining peace. Now, if you'll excuse me, have a good day. (President Porfirio Díaz upon being urged by the US ambassador to leave Texas)
